Having fun with your children in the winter doesn’t always have to be outside where conditions may be colder than you can handle. Finding fun and affordable places to go will help keep your kids from getting out of hand without costing you a fortune!
If your children enjoy art…Check out the Eric Carle Museum in Amherst MA. A great place to tap into your own childhood and also entertaining your children. You’ll see some of your favorite Eric Carle illustrations and, depending on when you go, the museum hosts a variety of exhibitions which currently are: Monsters and Miracles: A Journey through Jewish Picture Books; Eric Carle: A Feast for the Eyes; and Partners in Wonder: Selections from the Collection of Jane Yolen.
If your children enjoy a little bit of everything…Check out the Children’s Museum in Holyoke MA. This museum has been entertaining children for decades with their endless and fun possibilities. Explore your creative side with their science section, or know what it’s like to be on the news with their make believe news station with child friendly operating equipment. Your child will have fun playing pretend and learning through their endless exhibitions. With admission only $6.00 you’ll be glad you made the trip.
If you are looking for something for the whole family….Check out your local public library! Libraries are a great way to get the kids out of the house and at no cost to you. Most public libraries have designated children’s libraries that offer books, audio cassettes, and movies targeted towards young children. Often libraries do read aloud story time which is a great way to get your child engaged in reading, while you browse through some materials for yourself. Making your library trip something fun for the children will also help instill good reading habits for the future.
No matter what you choose to do with your children during the winter, just remember to keep things interesting and fun and spring will be here before you know it!
